Chinese Sea Wing (Haiyi) ocean glider
A UUV found by Indonesian fishermen on December 20 was a Chinese made Sea Wing glider. The design is broadly similar to other variable-buoyancy propelled gliders. The cutaway is based on inferring the internal layout from photographs of the exterior and general knowledge of other gliders.
Sea Wing gliders have been recovered in Indonesia on at least three occassions:
According to manufacturer sources, Sea Wing can carry Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) sensors, as well as turbulence meter, Turbidimeter, chlorophyll sensor, dissolved oxygen sensor, nitrate and other biochemical sensors. It can also carry Acoustic sensors such as ADCP (acoustic Doppler current profile), underwater acoustic communication and hydrophones.
It's roles are described as:
- Scientific research
- Dynamic ocean process observation
- Acoustic detection
- Comprehensive exploration of the deep sea environment
Naturally these have naval / military relevance as well as civilian research.

Update
One sensor carried by the Sea Wing appears to be the US designed (made?) Slocum Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD). The circular sensor also highlighted is likely to be an ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Pprofile):
